The Tarot is a set of 78 cards which have been used since the mid-15th century for the purposes of playing games and as a map of mental and spirtual pathways. Although there is a common misconception that Tarot can be used to predict the future, many, including me, consider this to be inaccurate. Instead the cards are used as tools to examine a situation and look for guidance, but ultimately the source of the information comes from within. The cards do not tell you what to do, or what is going to happen but rather, they enlighten you about the choices that you have, and the possibilities that await you, depending on the path you choose.
You determine your future by your own free will, but consulting the cards can be a method of clarifying your goals, taking time to consider your options and taking time to work out the path you want to persue. Ultimately your future is up to you.

The cards are separated into two types:: the Major Arcana and the Minor. The Major Arcana consists of the "character" cards - the Emperor, the High Priestess, the Fool, the Sun, the World, the Chariot and so forth. The Minor Arcana is divided into 4 suites, like a pack of playing cards, but the suites are (generally, some decks are slightly different): Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. Within each suite there are numbered cards 1-10 and then a King, Queen, Prince and Princess.

There are two main types of readings:: Question Readings and Open Readings. The latter is the most straightforward to explain - it is using a spread of cards (the order in which the cards are choosen has a significance, which I explain on the page on Spreads - please see above) to address various aspects of your life - for example, what might happen in the next 12 months, or what is going to happen in your career or relationships

The second type of reading is a question reading, in which you ask and receive guidance on a specific question. It is better not to ask a yes/no question, that is not the intended purpose of the Tarot, nor should you expect the Tarot to make a decision for you, but you should use the information that the Tarot provides to help you determine the way forward - in other words use the cards as signposts, but ultimately determine the path for yourself.
